Striving to share my very best work in my new 500px portfolio.

It’s hard to believe that I started my first Flickr account almost 5 years ago, and even to this day I’ve been a big fan of what they provide – especially from a developer API.

But while I’m not giving up on Flickr, I’ve decided to also join the growing movement that is headed towards 500px.com.

So now, you can view my very best works to date on my new 500px portfolio page at http://krisnelsonphoto.500px.com

View 500px Portfolio

I’m only starting with a few select photos at the moment, and I imagine I’ll just be posting about a dozen or so from my existing works so far. The emphasis for me, really, is going to be posting the best new work I put together starting with the year ahead.

The other part about 500px that has me pretty excited to have joined is how easy it is to browse through so many amazing photographs and instantly be inspired in more ways than I could possible shoot in a year. Add to that the slick 500px iPad App and I can see myself quickly losing track of time finding other great photographers to follow and filling up my idea list.

Are you on 500px?

Do you already have a 500px account? Look me up at http://500px.com/KrisNelsonPhoto if you wanted to follow along, or leave your 500px link in the comments so I can check out your work.

I decided to revisit some of the dozens of blog feeds I have filed away in Google Reader under Photography and started thinking about ways to feature and share some of these here at the blog. What I came up with was starting a new MyAlltop page. For those that might not have heard of Alltop yet, they have been described as an online magazine rack of sorts by some. In essence, it’s a collection of thousands of human-reviewed blog feeds and articles listed under hundreds of different categories like photography, Hawaii, and hockey just to name a few. No surprise I picked those topics as examples, eh? I first started checking out Alltop early last year when I was working on my first Maui website, and thought it was a pretty neat concept. Then, over the summer, they released MyAlltop, which lets you create a profile and select your own favorite feeds from their directory. No surprise I picked those topics as examples, eh?

I first started checking out Alltop early last year when I was working on my first Maui website, and thought it was a pretty neat concept. Then, over the summer, they released MyAlltop, which lets you create a profile and select your own favorite feeds from their directory. That what I’m started now for photonelly.

The photonelly MyAlltop

Now that the intro is out of the way, you can take a look at the first few blog feeds I’ve added to the photonelly MyAlltop, with more to come soon. There are a few other ideas I’m looking at with using this service, so this may only be the beginning.

If you know of or have a photography related website (or any website for that matter) that you’d like to have reviewed and added to Alltop, visit their Submissions page to find out more.

Thoughts?

Do you use Alltop already, or have any thoughts about the service? I’m interested in hearing of others out there have similar MyAlltop pages that would want to swap lists and share some of their favorites as well. If I get enough responses, I might even create a list of those MyAlltop pages on the sidebar here as well.

Fresh to the web, I wanted to share a new site that was recently launched by a few of the great people I met at the ’09 Maui Photo Festival, Legion Photo. The Legion Photo website is a stunning collection of photographs from nine very talented, and very brave, men and women who took their cameras into combat, fighter planes, and more dangerous situations than most other photographers would dream of. The result is a candid, captivating, intense, and emotional view into the lives and sacrifices that our nation’s true heroes make to keep our freedom safe. I had the extreme pleasure of getting to fly with two of the photographers featured at Legion Photo, Stacy Pearsall and Andy Dunaway in September when they led a series of aerial shoots over Maui by helicopter. They were some of the nicest people you’ll ever met, and following along with them online after the workshops, they do so much to give back to the veterans community, it’s amazing.
Their New Mission

It takes a lot of talent and dedication to do what the photographers, or legionographers as they’re referred to, featured on Legion Photo do behind the camera. They have taken their own individual experiences and come together to offer a wide range of commercial photography, video, and creative services. Given the locations and conditions they have shot under in their military careers, I can’t imagine there’s a job out there they couldn’t handle.

In addition to the photos and profiles (coming soon) on their website, you can also interact with Legion Photo on Facebook, Twitter, and their blog. Be sure to check out the links below and let them (and me) know what you think of their work.
