While not nearly as bad as what New England received last week, we’ve had our fair share of snow this passed weekend here in Chicago. And while my wife prefers the warmth of Maui over the snowy Midwest winters, I for one am getting excited about our upcoming weekend trip to Door County come January.
More Hockey Photos Coming
If there’s one thing about winter that Cindy and I can agree on, it’s hockey. We had ourselves a doubleheader of hockey on Sunday. It started with last minute tickets to the afternoon matinee to the Chicago Wolves game against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Our seats were amazing, just 3 ROWS from the glass, just about at the defensive/offensive zone faceoff dot.
Other than realizing I really do need to rent a faster lens for these games, I managed to fill up 2 1/2 memory cards full of shots that I’m hoping to go through and post a few this week.
The second half of our doubleheader was watching the Hawks beat the Nashville Predators for the second straight night. While we weren’t at that game, it sure was an exciting one to say the least.
Be sure to keep an eye out for those soon, and to hold you over, check out the other hockey photos here at the blog and my new (and soon to be updated) Hockey Portfolio.

Photo: Westwood Shores View
Well, the benefits of being closer and cheaper than Maui have scored Door County another visit booked from us for January.
This was the view down by the water outside of the Westwood Shores Resort that we first stayed in last September. While we’ve yet to stay in the same place twice during our visits to the Door in the past year, we booked our next weekend there with a harbor view at the Stone Harbor Resort right in the heart of Sturgeon Bay.
Sure, it will be the middle of winter and we won’t have warm views like this, but there will still be many a photo to be had, I’m sure.
Photo: Big Dipper over Door County
Not my best shot of the night sky by any means, but it was pretty fun capturing one of the most recognizable set of stars in the sky with a decent foreground composition.
This was from Door County last year, and while not as impressive as seeing the stars out in the Pacific Ocean over Maui, it was still a lot better than what we normally see living 10 minutes from Chicago. It was from September of last year, the only real chance I’ve gotten to shoot the night sky in Door County so far.
Of our other trips to date, it was ridiculously cold last December to be out, and for our April trip, there just wasn’t really a good spot where we were at. Plus, it was the Stanley Cup playoffs and the Hawks were beating up on Calgary, so I couldn’t miss that.
Not sure about going out to shoot this next trip, but we’ll see.
If you want to see more of these, check out the two photosets on Flickr below, and a little bit more of how this all got started.
